Highway Care continue to lead the way in safety excellence

Another chapter for Highway Care and our commitment to the Health & Safety of all staff, partners, visitors and stakeholders … we have successfully made the significant transition from OSHAS 18001 to ISO 45001.

What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001 is the world’s first International Standard for occupational health and safety, ISO state that the new International Standard is expected to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses around the world.

This is a cause for celebration for every single member of staff at Highway Care. Chris Harris HSEQ Manager explains “there are 13 explicit requirements in the ISO 45001 standard placed on management. It means that health and safety has to be integrated across the business. It is no longer acceptable for it to be a stand-alone function. We should not underestimate the significance of ISO 45001, as it will eventually replace up to 24 different standards across the globe . We have had to demonstrate top management involvement and continual improvement in all areas and everyone has played their part, right across the company”

This was re-enforced by Andrew MacCuish, Operations Director with HSEQ responsibilities who stated “ISO 45001 marks a fundamental shift in the role of occupational health and safety within organisations and we are delighted to have achieved this” … Andrew also explained “the main difference is that ISO 45001 concentrates on the interaction between an organisation and its business environment whilst OHSAS 18001, which we also held, was focused on managing OH&S hazards and other internal issues”

So well done to everyone … this is another step on our journey to safety excellence, both in our internal practices and in our external products and services.
