OUR STORY

BG800® TEMPORARY BARRIER, RAPIDLY DEPLOYED, MINIMUM DEFLECTION

OUR STORY

Highway Care was established in 1976 under the name Selectokil Ltd. Their mission and purpose was to allow work forces to safely carry out weed control services on highways. This idea developed into the mobile lane closure technique that is seen on motorways today.

Pioneering crash cushions

In 1990 the company changed its name to Highway Care and keeping safety front of mind, became the first private company to introduce the Traffic Mounted Attenuator (TMA), a type of crash cushion for the motorway. Highway Care are proud to have pioneered the use of crash cushions on trunk roads, helping to save the lives and prevent serious injuries to all roads users.

Mobile traffic products

Highway Care identified a gap in the UK market for Mobile Traffic Products and in 1995 introduced the Mobile Traffic Light Arrow as its first product in this range. Four years later it was given statutory approval by Highways England in the UK and today these are constantly used by highways maintenance trucks in order to make road users aware of maintenance work or lane closures occurring.

Developments have also led to the first Vertical Lift Light Arrow and the first Red ‘X’ Light Arrow being introduced to the market and becoming staple products that Highway Care offer.

As Highway Care evolved further and trunk roads grew busier, the company committed itself even further to improving both operator and driver safety.
