Getting to Know: John Townsend, Transport Manager

Next in our 'Meet our Employees' project, John Townsend, gives us a look into what the day in the life of a Transport Manager holds!
Q: In three sentences describe your typical work day?
A: A typical day at Highway Care will consist of solving problems that may have come to light, whether vehicular, operational, or sites and ensuring o’licence compliance across all sites. I would be working through agreed constructive innovations to improve how we operate in Transport and as a company. Helping any department that may require my assistance to aid them to achieve their goals or problems.

A: 4 years
Q: What do you most enjoy about your job?
A: Working with other Team Members to improve how we operate.
Q: What do you love about working at HC?
A: The brand, there is so much innovation.
Q: What is your biggest professional achievement and biggest personal achievement?
A: My biggest professional achievement was to become a Transport Manager and then use my qualifications in the real word and try to abide by all associated requirements as an industry professional to make any company I work for safer and more efficient
Q: What do you put off most when doing your job?
A: Filing, I’m awful at it.
Q: What are you most likely to say at work or home?
A: How are you?
Q: What are you least likely to say at work or home?
A: Wow! how young do I look… Q: How would you describe your job in 3 words?
A: Legal, Important, Varied
Q: If you could swap roles with someone else at HC who would it be and why?
A: Marketing team, I like the creative nature of what they do to promote and inform so many people whether internal and external, plus they are always happy people.
Q: What are your biggest professional challenges?
A: Not allowing job pressures to make me choose a wrong decision that would force us to potentially run illegal or unsafe with the fleet and equipment we operate.
Q: Where do you see yourself in the business in 5 years' time? A: Really don’t know, I’m sure the company will evolve and change as it has always done since I started, so will have to see what comes my way on my own journey.
Alongside all of his hard work within Highway Care, John is currently running a Virtual 10K Event with Dymock Cricket Club. We've been a sponsor of the D.C.C run for the past couple of years but due to the current #covid19 pandemic, this year is running a little different.
