Highway Care engineers recognised at prestigious Highways Champion Awards
Two of Highway Care's longest-serving engineers have been recognised at the 2026 Highways Champion Awards, held in London and hosted by television and radio presenter Vernon Kay. The event celebrated individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the highways industry, from long-standing service to innovation in road safety.
Adrian Bullock, Engineering & Manufacturing Director, and Russell How, Senior Applications Engineer, received Long Service medals for their outstanding contributions to the industry. Russell also collected an Innovation Award for his role in developing the Falcon 100 Automated Cone Laying Machine (ACLM).
Having joined Highway Care in 1995, Adrian has significantly shaped the company's technical capabilities and product development. For more than 30 years, he has been instrumental in the design, testing and approval of numerous vehicle restraint and protective security systems, including BG800, SecureGuard, HighwayGuard™ and the Falcon 100 ACLM. Alongside his technical achievements, Adrian has mentored and developed engineers who now hold senior positions across the industry.
Russell's highways career spans more than 37 years, during which he has helped drive some of the industry's most significant road safety developments. He was instrumental in installing the first Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) in the UK and developing the early standards now known as CD378. TMAs have since played a significant role in protecting road users and traffic management operatives, helping save thousands of lives.
Russell also received an Innovation Award for his work leading the technical development and implementation of the Falcon 100 ACLM, working alongside industry partners to bring the technology into operation. The system automates the deployment and collection of traffic management cones in under 10 seconds. Four machines are currently operating on the M25, removing significant manual handling demands and reducing operatives' exposure to live traffic.
Adam Thompson, Managing Director at Highway Care, said:
“We are incredibly proud to see Adrian and Russell recognised in this way. Between them, they represent decades of engineering expertise, innovation and dedication to the highways industry.
“Their contributions have helped shape Highway Care and made a lasting impact on the wider sector. These awards are thoroughly deserved, and it’s fantastic to see their commitment recognised.”
Highway Care congratulates Adrian and Russell on their well-deserved recognition and thanks them for their continued contribution to the business and the wider highways industry.
